How to create online promotions for Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is coming up and many people still have no idea what to give. Flowers? A book? Perfume? The dilemma of not knowing what to give on May 3 comes up year after year, holiday after holiday.

Personally, this hits close to home, because right now my family is dropping hints trying to find out whether I’d like a pair of shoes or that watch we saw in a store the other day.

So, since plenty of people share this “problem”, I say: let’s help them find the perfect gift in our online store and, while we’re at it, boost our eCommerce sales.

We know everyone likes having a problem solved, and if they also get a better price on something they were already planning to buy, we can win over a customer who was only visiting out of curiosity.

Want to boost your eCommerce sales this Mother’s Day? Make gifting easy!

Let’s help visitors to our online store so they don’t have to browse thousands of pages before finding what they want. Let’s keep it simple and show products in an attractive way, different from what we usually do. Just do one of the things I suggest below, or a combination, to succeed.

If you’re not sure what to do, here’s a list of ideas you can use in your eCommerce to set up some online Mother’s Day promotions.

Create bundles

Perfume shops know this well and always offer perfume or cologne in a gift set. You can create bundles with products from your online store. They don’t need to be from the same range or brand: build whatever combinations you think your customers will like. How about an anti-wrinkle cream and a cooling eye mask? Or muffin molds with a cupcake recipe book? Any combination works as long as it’s unique and customers can’t find it anywhere else.

Some online stores let users build their own bundle, choosing from a range of similarly priced items to personalize the gift

You can also clear out excess stock by adding those products as a free extra with the purchase.

Promo code #MothersDay

There’s always the option of an online promo code that can be redeemed at checkout. Create a code that’s simple and easy to remember. You’ll also need a clearly visible field in your eCommerce checkout that makes it obvious how to apply the coupon.

Remember that checkout should be fast and fully transparent for the user.

Create an image with the promo code for your online store and make it easy to share. You can spread the word a few days in advance through a newsletter or post it on social media so your followers benefit from keeping up with your business. They’ll surely appreciate it.

If you have a physical store, you could also print the same promo code as a coupon and hand it out with the receipt.

24-hour delivery.

This is crucial to offer our customers, especially as a holiday approaches. Let’s help everyone who forgot to buy a gift and is searching on their phone for something that will arrive at home within 24 hours.

If you already offer this service, it doesn’t hurt to add a note saying that anything bought for Mother’s Day will arrive within 24 hours.

Gift wrapping and personal message

Speaking of making customers’ lives easier, for special events or holidays like Mother’s Day it can be very appealing to offer gift wrapping so everything arrives ready to give. Imagine if users could also add a small card with a handwritten message.

I personally love this kind of service and knowing that the gift I buy will arrive ready to give. That’s how the online toy store won me over. For every one of my kids’ birthdays, I buy a couple of things knowing they’ll arrive wrapped, with a lollipop and a message. For me, that service deserves a chapeau.

Discount vouchers for the next purchase

The best customer you can have is one who comes back. They already know our products and quality, and if they’ve returned, they can become an advocate for our online store. Let’s make that return easier with a discount voucher for their next purchase.

A sale isn’t closed until the product is in the customer’s hands and they’re happy with their purchase. A discount voucher will surely make them want to buy from us again.

Create an event or contest

If you have a Facebook page or a Twitter or Instagram account, you can create a promotion for your followers to join. Harness the power of social media and the appeal of a giveaway by creating an event to win a product from your eCommerce.

Keep in mind the promotion should be simple and achievable. The rules must be clear, and I’d even recommend creating a page explaining how to enter the contest.

Be transparent when choosing the winner, too, and post the lucky person’s name on your eCommerce site. You can even share a photo of the winner holding their prize and turn them into an advocate for your store.

Let your visitors know about your promotions

If we have a promotion, it should always be front and center. I’d be a millionaire if I counted the times clients create Mother’s Day promotions and put the information on the fourth homepage banner.

It’s about making noise and announcing our store’s promotions with great fanfare. If we’ve taken the time to create an attractive offer or bundle, we need to make sure everyone visiting our online store can see it.

Send a newsletter, create a banner, announce it on social media and let everyone who visits your store know they can buy that gift they’ve been searching for from you.

And if you don’t have any of the options I’ve mentioned yet, what are you waiting for?!

Is your online store ready with promotions for this Mother’s Day?

But please, be nice and don’t give Mom an iron. Give her a little something that’s just for her.
