The importance of Author Rank in 2013

SEO is changing at cruising speed, with constant changes and updates, especially since Google’s latest algorithm changes (Panda and Penguin).

Here’s an example of how my blog’s search results look with this change:

You can also see a rating system. I’ll talk about this topic (rich snippets) in my next post.

What is Author Rank and what is it for?

It’s a new algorithm that assigns a value to an author’s importance. Several factors will determine it, mainly social ones (tweets, Facebook likes, Google+ votes, social bookmarks), as well as the social authority (Author Rank) of the user taking those actions and the comments the specific post receives.

Google has long emphasized creating original, quality content, so with this tool Google will promote it—and, of course, its own social network at the same time, which, by the way, I’d completely neglected until now (and, naturally, I’m only on it because I have to…)

How do I link content to my authorship?

If you don’t have one, you’ll need to create a Google Plus account. There are other ways, but this is the easiest and most recommended. Once you’ve created your profile, go to “Edit profile” and, under “Contributor to,” enter your website’s URL. Then, before closing the head tag in your website or blog code, add:

(with your Google Plus profile URL)

Adding this system will help us improve our rankings and increase visibility in search results.

Can I do this on my online store?

If you create content through a blog, yes. If not, you know what to do: that’s the first step, always thinking of your customer and giving them information they care about, with consistency and dedication.

Yes! Content is king….
