eCommerce blog: what are the benefits

A new season begins, and there’s no need to wait until January to take on new challenges: we need to start an eCommerce blog! That’s probably one of the phrases most often heard in your office when you talk about your eCommerce.

Why I should write a blog

In the end, more urgent tasks always get in the way, with excuses that echo through the halls of big companies too: “there’s no time right now,” “but who’s going to write it?”, “does this really bring any return?”. At Trilogi (TLG) we’re strong advocates of eCommerce blogs, and with the benefits listed below we’ll try to convince you to launch a blog this fall.

Years ago, blogs were for personal use until companies realized they could improve their online strategy with them. Here are a few benefits of having an eCommerce blog to encourage you to start one.

Tips and tutorials

Let’s say you have a clothing eCommerce and decide to start a blog. One of this sector’s strong points is fashion. You could write articles about the season’s trends, color combinations for this fall, warm fabrics, colors trending in Japan, new prints, different textiles, pairing clothes with accessories… and much more.

Besides helping users and promoting your own clothing, you’re also creating quality content. When a user searches for “fall winter 2016 trends,” you’ll already rank for those keywords and, besides getting quality visits, you can turn those visits into sales.

The more visits —and the better their quality— your blog gets, the better it will rank. Quality, up-to-date content will give your digital strategy a real boost.

Number of ranking keywords

One of the biggest SEO advantages of having an eCommerce blog is the number of keywords you’ll rank for in search engines’ organic results.

the best keywords for ecommerce

For every article you write, you should choose one or more keywords to work on so they rank in the results. Let’s continue with the online clothing eCommerce example. We decide to write an article about this fall’s fashion trends, so we look for long-tail keywords to target. We could go for “moda otoño 2016,” with 2400 monthly searches in Spain, or “tendencias otoño 2016,” which with “only” 590 monthly searches has low competition.

It’s very important to work on keywords in your articles to rank for relevant keywords. If you want to read more about keywords, check out this post on our blog.

More natural links

If your eCommerce blog content is high quality and adds value for users, you’ll earn plenty of links naturally.

Sticking with our online clothing blog example, imagine we’ve written an article about the benefits of bamboo clothing. It covers the quality of the garments, the benefits of bamboo and other useful points for consumers of this type of product. Once it’s written and shared on our social media and newsletter, interested users will read it, and anyone who likes it will share it on their social media, blog, website and so on.

These links are completely natural, which Google really likes.

Reliability, commitment and trust

Once we have a blog, we need to update it regularly, whether once a week, once every 2 weeks or once a month, so it isn’t seen as “abandoned.”

If we keep up the pace, in addition to the benefits above, we’ll gain an image of reliability and commitment, both very important in online sales.

An eCommerce blog updated every 6 months is not the same as one updated 1–2 times a month. We’ll earn the trust of users, who will see that we’re committed to our project and strongly believe in it and in our products.

We hope these points have left you eager to start an eCommerce blog and begin creating quality content for it.

At Trilogi (TLG) we support you in your new projects. Good luck with your blog!
