Don’t abandon your online store in summer

With sunshine and good weather, online stores see their sales drop, even while maintaining or even exceeding the previous month’s traffic. Outdoor activities, terraces and leisure fill our summer, and we forget to buy what we like during the holidays. That’s why many believe there’s no need to keep working on SEO over the summer, since results fall short of monthly traffic goals, let alone the desired conversions. So many simply close for the holidays. But Google doesn’t, and neither does SEO.

Abandoning SEO in August or over the summer months, along with all the online marketing strategies carried out throughout the year, means leaving part of the work done so far unfinished. In fact, the calm of August lets online marketing agencies set new challenges and goals with the client, such as:

  • Review all the SEO content of your online store and optimize it for the fall-winter season. Yes, it’s sunny, but summer flies by, and time catches up with anyone who has just started or left copy and descriptions half-done.
  • Optimize all the product images in your online store. When an online store is created, amid the rush and nerves, images often end up poorly named or without descriptions. The quiet holiday period is a chance to review them all thoroughly: descriptions, dimensions, file size, etc.
  • Analyze the links pointing to your eCommerce. Do you know where your visits come from? What is that link doing there? It’s a good time to review, understand and extend your online store’s presence to new portals, bloggers and authority domains that will bring visits and improve your Google rankings.
  • Check prices. With Google Shopping and such visual product comparisons, it’s easy to see who has the lowest prices on the market. Compare and review your pricing, shipping and returns policies so you can offer both your existing and new products at market prices.
  • Run contests to boost social media engagement. While it’s true we spend more time on leisure, phones and tablets are part of everyday life. People share their holidays and show off their photos… so launch fun contests with prizes like weekend getaways and grow your social media following. You can also spend time talking with your audience and looking for new targets based on your business expectations.

Don’t abandon SEO in summer

If you don’t want to lose rankings, ongoing SEO strategies are necessary to stay on Google’s first pages. Stopping SEO weakens your online store against all the new stores, as well as the already optimized ones that keep pushing hard. So take advantage of the summer calm to gain more control over your store.

Make the most of summer and the holidays and let us get your online store ready for the new season 🙂
