M-Commerce trends for 2013

At the beginning of 2012, Trilogi conducted a study with a sample of our clients comparing visits from mobile devices (smartphones and tablets) in the first quarter of 2011 versus 2012.

Analysis of more than 100 online stores across different sectors (B2C).

The study’s results:

  • 3.8% of visits in 2011
  • 11% of visits in 2012

Now that 2012 has closed, visits from smartphones already account for 24%, and most importantly, users are buying and the conversion rate keeps rising, matching that of desktop visits.

If we add that, according to studies by OMP, Spain is one of the European countries with the most smartphone users, while only a very small percentage of companies have smartphone-optimized stores, we can conclude it’s a great time to invest in adapting our online store.

This growth in users makes sense: with your smartphone you can browse anytime—on public transport, while waiting for a meeting or the doctor—to research products or interact on social media. Plus there’s the privacy of using your own personal smartphone.

When a potential customer lands on your mobile version and sees how easy you make browsing, do you think they’ll buy from your store or from a competitor whose store isn’t optimized?

Do you think this growth in smartphone visits will keep rising in 2013?

My prediction is that we’ll reach 40% by the end of the year. What’s yours?
