As you all know, Trilogi has been present in China, the world’s largest eCommerce market, since January 2011. eCommerce keeps growing in the Asian giant, and the sector is expected to generate over $265 billion and reach 270 million shoppers in 2013.
But what is this market really like, and what are its main characteristics?
In this post I’m sharing an infographic with the figures that define the eCommerce market in China, a market with many peculiarities and very different from the Western one when it comes to search engines, SEO and online payment systems. For example, China has a clear leader among search engines, Baidu, which accounts for almost 72% of searches in the country. There’s also a clear leader in online payments, Alipay, which handles 47% of transactions.
The infographic also shows how China’s eCommerce market will reach 423.4 million shoppers and generate over $457 billion in 2016—figures that make it the world’s largest eCommerce market.
Everything suggests the coming years will be key for the development of eCommerce in China, a country with ever-better infrastructure and internet connections, where shipping costs, as the infographic shows, are still very low. This eCommerce boom will be especially significant in the country’s urban areas, where more than 40% of the population is expected to shop through online platforms by 2015.
