Now they have taken on a new dimension.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s start at the beginning\u2026<\/p>\n<h2>What is an SSL certificate, what is it for and what does it stand for?<\/h2>\n<p>It\u2019s a <strong>security system that encrypts data between server and user<\/strong>, so the data travels intact and secure. This tells users they\u2019re on a safe, trustworthy site where shared data always travels encrypted across the network.<\/p>\n<p class=\"curiosidad\">SSL stands for Secure Socket Layer.<\/p>\n<h2>Types of SSL certificate<\/h2>\n<p>Which type of certificate our site needs depends on two factors. Depending on them, the price can vary a lot, and you can find cheap or even free certificates. The factors to consider are:<\/p>\n<h4>How many domains do we want to certify?<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Certificates<\/strong> for a <strong>single domain<\/strong>: usually the cheapest. Example: <u>https:\/\/www.certificado.com<\/u><\/li>\n<li><strong>Multi-domain certificates:<\/strong> slightly more expensive than the previous ones, but better than buying a separate certificate for each domain. Example: <u>https:\/\/www.certificado.com<\/u> \/ <u>https:\/\/www.certificado.es<\/u> \/ <u>https:\/\/www.certificado.fr<\/u><\/li>\n<li><strong>Wildcard certificate<\/strong>: when we also want to certify subdomains. Example: <u>https:\/\/www.certificado.com<\/u> and <u>https:\/\/m.certiticado.com<\/u><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>What type of validation do we want?<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Domain validation.<\/strong> The simplest and fastest validation. It\u2019s done by email and you can have the certificate within minutes. These are the cheapest and most popular certificates.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Business Validation.<\/strong> Besides email confirmation, you must submit company documents. Finally, you have to answer a phone call from the certificate issuer.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Extended validation.<\/strong> The most thorough. It includes all of the above plus much more documentation requested by the certificate issuer.
