After several weeks of the country living under a state of emergency, Royal Decree-Law 10\/2020 of March 29 comes into force. This new order regulates recoverable paid leave for employees who don\u2019t provide essential services, with the aim of reducing population mobility as part of the fight against COVID-19.<\/p>\n

The priority of this new regulation is, without a doubt, to restrict everyone\u2019s movement as much as possible to prevent infection.<\/p>\n

In the online sector, and eCommerce in particular, the big concern is obviously whether this restriction would also affect the transport and delivery of goods bought online. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Let\u2019s get to the point: item 24 of the annex to Royal Decree-Law 10\/2020 confirms that exempt from the mobility restriction are all people who <\/strong>work in the distribution and delivery of products purchased online, by phone or by mail order. So, until further notice, online business remains 100% operational.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Having spoken with the country\u2019s main logistics operators, they confirm that, although fast deliveries are hard to guarantee, they will continue to operate normally, while taking maximum safety measures at every level of the chain.<\/p>\n

After 15 days, how has the state of emergency affected eCommerce?<\/h2>\n

Given the extraordinary situation the country is going through and the restrictions on in-store shopping, together with the new consumer habits forced by lockdown, there has been an overall 20% drop in traffic but a 30% increase in revenue.<\/p>\n

Growing sectors in eCommerce<\/h2>\n

Sectors considered essential and those related to entertainment and hobbies stand out in particular.<\/p>\n

Sports, food and toys are doubling their revenue compared with the same period last year. Electronics also stands out: on peak days last week, sales were four times the daily forecasts.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, although fashion and footwear are seeing a drop in traffic and sales, many brands are choosing to maintain their online investment and communication so as not to lose brand awareness and positioning<\/p>\n

During this state of emergency, with internet use and access to all online channels skyrocketing, the only sales channel open in many sectors is online, so now is the time to keep betting big on your eCommerce.<\/p>\n
